Buying a condo versus renting forever — talk me out of it

Renting in Bangkok for six years, currently 32,000 a month. I could buy something similar outright in the foreign quota. Everyone I speak to who owns says do not buy, and everyone who rents says buying is obviously cheaper. What I cannot get a straight answer on is resale — do units in older buildings here actually sell, and at what kind of discount? Also what the sinking fund and common fees realistically do over ten years.
