Is it normal to feel lonely after the first year?

Year one here was the best of my life. Year two, the people I met in year one have nearly all left, and I have realised almost every friendship I had was with other foreigners who were also passing through. I have a good job and a nice flat and I speak to nobody from Friday to Monday. Not looking for sympathy, looking for practical answers from people who got past this. How did you build something that stayed?
